Due to the limited funds available, we are currently concentrating
on fulfilling orphanages immediate needs in relation
to basic supply of medical and hygiene products, toys, games,
footwear, clothing, stationery, books and films.
However we are currently running two educational programmes:

GRADUATES SURVIVAL PROGRAMMES
We are currently running a survival programme for
this year graduates. There are 17 graduates among four orphanages
this year, age 15 16. Special places have been secured
for them in the local vocational training schools. The most
popular schools are building and construction, and hairdressing.
The local council pays for the training. The children will be
housed in students hostels. The conditions in the hostels
are very poor and the students are only entitled to a grant
of 100.00 roubles (US $ 3.00) a month. It is impossible to survive
on this amount of money, so many students turn into crime and
prostitution to make the ends meet. It is then when their social
standards deteriorate and many of them become victims of sexual
abuse and crime. It is very hard to maintain high moral standards
and be a good student when you cannot afford basic necessities
like toothpaste and a hot meal a day.
Some
students survive with the help of their distant relatives and
friends, some try and find part time jobs but many turn to crime.
This is a crucial moment in these children lives. If only they
had the minimum funds available to go through their training
they would have had a chance of building a normal life.
We have calculated that additional US$ 20.00 per student a month
would provide our graduates with an adequate standard of living.
It will buy them food and hygiene necessities and with careful
budgeting some clothes and entertainment.
If you choose to contribute to this programme, you can either
donate money without specifying a particular student or you
can choose a student you would like to support and stay in touch
with him/her and monitor their progress. A list of students
is available on request. Contact Inna_Iranyi@hotmail.com.
COMPUTERISATION
This is probably too grand of a word, as we are not planning
to distribute laptops among all the pupils! But we believe
that in our age of technology the children will benefit immensely
by familiarising themselves with the computer technology from
an early age. There is one computer currently available at
the Suckhoyi Log Orphanage and it is shared among its pupils.
The experience proved that the computer games and the Internet
fascinate children. It gives them an opportunity to communicate
with the outside world as well as an access to the vast amount
of information. The in-house tutors monitor the sites accessible
by the pupils and certain security codes are in place.
We would be delighted if with your help we can purchase
computers for the Ryabinuskas, Tugulim and Shurala Orphanages.
- An estimated cost of one Pentium computer with a printer
is US $1000.
- Internet connection: US$ 200.00 (one off fee)
- Monthly fee: US $30.00
